You’ve probably heard that water makes up a huge percentage of your body. Although the numbers vary depending on age, gender, and fitness level, over half your body is made up of water. That’s a pretty big deal! But most people struggle to get all the water their bodies need each day, and don’t come anywhere close to the number of glasses they should be drinking.
So how do you fix that? Drinking enough water is so, so important, and it’s something you should be doing throughout the day – not just downing a few glasses all at once when you realize you’ve forgotten. But how do you keep from forgetting? Here are just a few tips and tricks to help get you started!
- Get a refillable container. Having water with you during the day is the easiest way to make sure you’re drinking more! Find yourself a cute water bottle (there are lots of different styles and types) or a glass that you like and someplace to refill it. Not only will you be helping yourself drink more water and stay hydrated, you’ll also be helping the environment!
- Add some flavor. I get it – regular old water isn’t exactly the best tasting drink out there. If you’re struggling to drink as much water as you should be because you don’t like the taste, try adding fresh fruit or herbs to your water to give it a little flavor. You can also buy flavor packets at the store, but make sure to check the nutrition information to see how much sugar and sodium comes with it.
- Cut back on caffeine. You might love your daily soda, but your body sure doesn’t. Not only does it contain a lot of sugar (most likely), it also can make you more dehydrated – not a good thing when you’re trying to drink more water!
- Make it a part of your day. Even with a glass or a water bottle sitting next to you all day, it can still be hard to remember to drink enough. Try setting yourself reminders on your phone, or using an app to track how much you drink. It might also help to set yourself goals through the day – one glass before breakfast, two more before lunch, etc. This can help keep you on track with your water intake.
Drinking enough water is something that a lot of people struggle with, but it’s incredibly important for your health! It won’t be easy to remember all the time, and it will certainly take some getting used to. But staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your health!
Wondering how much is enough water in a day? It’s recommended we drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day.
