Abortion Pill Reversal

Your right to choose includes the right to change your mind.

WHAT IS A MEDICAL ABORTION? There are two types of abortion: surgical and medical. Surgical is the procedure (surgery) in which a doctor goes in to physically remove the baby from the womb, terminating it’s life. Medical abortion is a more recent option in which pills (known as RU-486) are prescribed to cause the termination of a pregnancy by blocking progesterone (nutrition) from getting to the developing fetus. Then a second pill is taken about 48 hours later to break down the lining of the uterus and induce labor to expel everything from the uterus (this is not the same as the morning after pill). However, a medical abortion can only be done up to the tenth week of pregnancy. It is also important to note that for 5-8% of women medical abortion is not successful which then requires the surgical procedure to complete the abortion, adding to the stress, anxiety and complication to your choice.

CAN I CHANGE MY MIND? Sometimes women who think medical abortion is the right choice take the first pill and regret their decision. In agony of mind, heart and body they endure the trauma of a decision that they wish they could go back and change. The abortion reversal pill is a potential opportunity to change your decision and save the life of your child. This reversal pill is a large dose of progesterone which can counter the effects of the first RU-486 pill (mifepristone) and can be taken up to 72 hours after the first pill is taken. However, it is most effective within the first 24 hours. It will not work after the second pill (misoprostol).

IS IT SAFE? Progesterone is considered safe since it is a natural hormone; there has been no significant negative effects, and it is used to help women with miscarriage complications. For infants who survive the RU-486 through the use of the abortion reversal pill, there has been no birth defects or issues connected to the medication.

WHERE CAN  I GET THE REVERSAL? There are a limited number of physicians who will prescribe the abortion reversal pill, so call the hotline at 1-877-558-0333 or visit the website www.abortionpillreversal.com to find one in your area. After taking the reversal pill it is required that you follow up in person with the doctor who prescribed the reversal pill to determine the status of the pregnancy.
