3 Facts about Abortion You Might Not Have Heard

September 15, 2021

Abortion, Choice, Unplanned Pregnancy
<?php echo pulse_output(); ?>

Abortion is without a doubt one of the most controversial topics. There are passionate opinions on both sides of the argument, but abortion rights advocates use platforms and organizations like Planned Parenthood to promote their materials to a large audience. These groups hold significant political influence and fund most of the efforts to “normalize” abortion. However, many of the facts about abortion are either not discussed or minimized. Three of these facts include the physical pain of abortion, the long-term effects, and other issues that stem from the procedures.

ABORTION IS PHYSICALLY PAINFUL

The way that some promotional materials discuss abortion, the physicality of the procedure is minimized dramatically. Despite what some might say, abortion is not a painless procedure. First trimester abortions, also known as medical abortions, involve heavy cramping and bleeding. Both second and third-trimester abortions are surgical procedures. These surgeries are not simple in-and-out experiences. Abortions involve violently ending a pregnancy, causing bleeding and pain. It is by no means a pain-free experience and can be very traumatic, especially for women who expect a different, easier process.

ABORTION IS NOT A QUICK FIX

If you or someone you know faces an unplanned pregnancy, it’s tempting to think that abortion is the quick fix that will make all of your problems ago. This is especially true if you face significant pressure from a partner or family members. It’s important to remember that the choice to get an abortion is yours. There are other alternatives even if it might not seem like it right now. Abortions affect women emotionally and physically. An abortion procedure itself is not simple or painless. Women who choose to have a third-trimester abortion are induced and typically have to spend days in labor before delivering a stillborn baby. This experience is traumatic and something to seriously consider before deciding to have an abortion. Abortions are not a quick fix, and they also can create other problems.

ABORTION CAUSES OTHER PROBLEMS

Abortion rights advocates promote abortion as part of women’s healthcare. However, the fact is that abortion causes more problems than most pro-abortion advocates would admit. Many women feel regret and remorse after having an abortion, and this can lead to future, sometimes even lifelong, battles with depression and other mental illnesses. Despite the increase of awareness in the public sphere on the importance of mental health, any possible connection between abortion and its effects on mental health is often dismissed as conjecture. There can also be physical ramifications from scar tissue and the procedure itself.
