Healthy Pregnancy Habits

You deserve to feel your best during your pregnancy, and we know that having healthy pregnancy habits will help you stay healthy, energized, and keep your baby healthy too. We put together a list of healthy pregnancy habits you can start today to have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Eat Nourishing Foods

Growing a baby requires a solid nutritional plan. Eating whole foods will help you feel strong and energized throughout your pregnancy. Eating a diet rich in calcium, folic acid, whole grains, fruits, and veggies is ideal. Having a well-balanced diet will ensure the baby gets everything they need and can help reduce morning sickness and fatigue.

Here are some great foods to add to your plate:

Dairy

Legumes

Sweet potatoes

Eggs

Berries

Avocados

Whole grains

Try to eat a well-balanced plate with greens, protein, and whole grains for each meal. There are also a few foods to avoid during pregnancy, like raw meats, soft cheeses, and sushi.

Get Plenty Of Rest

Growing a human can take a lot of energy, and it’s essential to get plenty of rest during your pregnancy. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per day and take naps when you need them. It’s also a great idea to sleep on your left side to increase blood flow.

Reduce Stress

Stress is never good for anyone, especially a pregnant mother. Try prenatal yoga, meditation, asking for help, and reducing your to-do list to manage your daily stress. Be mindful of what’s causing stress in your life and minimize it as much as you can.

Get Daily Movement

Moving your body is great for you and your growing baby. While some exercise routines are not best for pregnant women, like hot yoga, exercising flat on your back, and jerky movements, there are plenty of ways you can stay active and feel your best. Going for daily walks, trying prenatal classes, swimming, and even some dance workouts will help you stay active and healthy. Aim for at least 15 minutes of movement per day, and be sure to listen to your body if you need to rest.

Don’t Smoke Or Drink Alcohol

During pregnancy, drinking and smoking can increase your baby’s SIDS and FASD risk and miscarriage, and premature death. If you are struggling to quit smoking or drinking, we have some resources we can share with you to help.

Go To Your Prenatal Appointments

Staying up to date on your appointments will help keep you and your baby healthy. In addition, if you are newly pregnant or need support to find local OB doctors, we can help verify your pregnancy and refer you to get excellent care.

We hope these pregnancy tips will help you develop healthy pregnancy habits that will have you feeling strong, energetic, and happier as you move through your pregnancy. If you are newly pregnant and need pregnancy care or pregnancy verification, we can help. Call our clinic today to set up an appointment. We would also love to answer any questions you have about establishing healthy pregnancy habits.
