When facing an unplanned pregnancy, it’s understandable to feel scared, overwhelmed and unsure of the future. Although abortion may seem like the answer, there are other ways to find support that you may not even be aware of now. And the good news is that they’re not as complicated as you might think.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Raising a child is a wonderful but difficult task. If you’ve decided to parent, you might be overwhelmed at the emotional and physical responsibility of parenting. But you don’t have to do it alone! Consider investing in a licensed therapist to discuss your fears, expectations and disappointments about parenting. Similarly, support groups are also helpful because they give you the chance to connect with likeminded people who are experiencing similar difficulties.
If these options are too overwhelming, make an appointment with us at Clearway Clinic! We will help you sort through your options and refer you to supportive resources in your parenting journey.
PHYSICAL/NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT
Your physical health is just as important as your mental health, so there are resources to help provide nutritious food, housing and other support if you need it. For example, if you are pregnant or gave birth and are unemployed or working for low wages, you can seek assistance through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. This initiative provides cash benefits to eligible participants, which includes pregnant women less than four months to their due date and those with children under 18 years old. In Massachusetts, TAFDC provides economic contributions as well as childcare and employment support services.
If you do participate in the TADFC program in Massachusetts, you’re automatically eligible for WIC benefits as well. WIC helps pregnant and low-income mothers and their families gain access to certain qualified nutritional foods.
CHILDCARE SUPPORT
Many parents struggle to find gainful unemployment because of the lack of accessible and affordable childcare options. For example, Massachusetts residents who meet specific eligibility requirements can seek help through the department of Early Education and Care. If you are eligible, you can have access to dozens of high-quality childcare options at a discounted rate. Depending on your income, the savings may be significant. Early education and childcare benefits are based on income levels and service needs, which includes your current working schedule and/or plans to work. This means you can work and know that your child is cared for in a safe and supportive environment without worrying about high standard childcare costs.
