Signs You Have An STD

When an infection is passed from one person to another during sexual contact, it is considered a sexually transmitted disease or STD. However, some STDs can be transferred through other forms of contact like skin-to-skin (herpes, HPV).
If you think you have been exposed to an STD, it is important to get tested as soon as possible or contact a medical professional to get clear on treatments, the timing of testing, and other important information you need to keep yourself safe. At Clearway Clinic, we offer confidential STD testing and information to help you navigate this tough situation.
While all situations can be different, there are some frequently experienced symptoms you can look out for if you think you might have an STD. This list is not exclusive, but if you experience these symptoms it’s important to seek medical care. Here are some signs you have an STD:

  • Pain when urinating
  • Discharge or odor from your penis or vagina
  • Vaginal Itching or irritation
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

There are other symptoms you might experience, but these tend to be the most common.

How Are Sexually Transmitted Diseases Diagnosed?

Typically if you suspect you have been exposed to an STD you will have an examination and swab or blood test done depending on what type of STD is suspected. It’s important to note that not all STDs have symptoms, so regular testing should be considered if you are sexually active.
